John graduated from The University of Toronto as a Specialist in Finance with a Major in Economics. Upon graduation he secured a position with CIBC World Markets as an IIROC/IDA licensed adviser, advising on individual equities, bonds, pooled funds and mutual funds. In 2003 John joined The Great-West Life Assurance Company as Manager, Retirement Investment Services (Hamilton/ Burlington). In 2005, he was promoted to Regional Manager of the same division in Toronto and headed up investment distribution for the GTA.
